When it comes to the Republican Party’s 2016 presidential nomination, Bernie Sanders is out of step with most party leaders
NEW YORK — The Bernie Sanders campaign announced Monday that it had launched a new website aimed at recruiting new supporters in a bid to attract new donors.
The new site, called “Join the Movement,” was launched by the campaign in an effort to bring in new voters who had been previously excluded from participating in the party’s primary process.
It was launched on Monday by Bernie Sanders, a Vermont senator and self-described democratic socialist.
Sanders told the Associated Press that the site is a tool for connecting new supporters and also to get out the word that he will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2016.
The Sanders campaign did not respond to a request for comment on whether the new website will be a part of the platform that Sanders and the party are hoping to put forward as a response to Donald Trump.
The website says: We need you to be part of this movement.
Our platform is a political revolution and it must be a movement for a new America.
As the Democratic National Committee said in a statement, “Our platform is designed to mobilize the millions of Americans who have not yet registered to vote, and to mobilize millions of new voters to vote.”
Sanders’ campaign did launch a separate website that seeks to engage with new voters, though, and was launched with the backing of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
The site features an online voting form, which includes questions about why they would be interested in joining the party and an online survey, in which they are asked to rate their opinion of Sanders on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most positive.
Sanders also has a video calling on young people to get involved with his campaign.
The Democratic National Convention begins this week in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
